Aubenham tertiary world 183A003 Oberbergkirchen
position
Isar-Inn hill country The abandoned marl pit opened up sediments from the Upper Freshwater Molasse as a raw material for the brick industry. Basal fine and coarse sands alternate with marls, limestone marls and clayey silts towards the hanging wall. Because of the rich plant fossil content, the pit is the type locality of Phytozone OSM-5. In addition to the first description of the genus Fagus (beech) in the Upper Freshwater Molasse, there was evidence of animal fossils of fish, mollusks, insects and deer-like mammals. There is an active pit in the same layers 200 meters to the northwest. The abandoned pit has been recultivated, there are residual outcrops of marl in the northeastern slope, otherwise a tertiary forest has been created here. A nature trail leads through the area. Fossils from the pit are on display in the neighboring school center. The Aubenham tertiary world is one of Bavaria's most beautiful geotopes and is explained on site with a corresponding information board. 90000

Ice crumbling landscape N of Gänsgerbl 183R008 Gars at the Inn
position
Inn-Chiemsee-Jungmoränenregion The ice crumbling landscape near Gänsgerbl lies on the terminal moraine of the Kirchseeon retreat stage and presents typical relics of the late Ice Age: At that time, the living (moving) glaciers disappeared, ice masses and blocks separated from them and only later melted as dead ice under the protection of rubble and debris poured over them. What remained were steep-walled or cup-shaped hollow forms. At Gänsgerbl, these so-called dead ice holes are sometimes designed like textbooks. 108000

The boundary between molasse sediments and overlying glacial gravel is clearly visible on the impact slope. Near the, in the rocks of the Upper Freshwater Molasse at river kilometer 112, primeval elephants (gomphotheria) and in the low terrace gravel at river kilometer 110 a mammoth tooth were found. Such fossil finds can in principle also be expected in the area of the Heistinger Prallhang. The geotope is used as a local recreation area because of its beauty, its special vegetation (dry grass with pine vegetation) and favorable afternoon and evening tanning. 48000

Tower from Nagelfluh above the barrage Teufelsbruck W von Wang 183R019 Under riding
position
Inn-Chiemsee-Jungmoränenregion A rock pillar from Nagelfluh stands directly on a hiking trail high above the Inn, east of the Teufelsbruck barrage. The conglomerate of calcareous cemented gravel shows abundant crystalline components. Würmzeit gravel is seldom cemented to Nagelfluh and in fact no further Nagelfluh can be observed in the gravel along the hiking trail. Perhaps the silty moraine cover over the gravel showed a hole here and seeping lime-rich water formed this column? 4
