List of geotopes in the Bayreuth district

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list contains the geotopes of the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth in Bavaria . The list contains the official names and numbers of the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) as well as their geographical location. This list may not be complete. Around 3,400 geotopes (as of March 2020) are recorded in the Bavarian geotope register. The LfU does not consider some geotopes suitable for publication on the Internet. For example, some objects are not safely accessible or may only be entered to a limited extent for other reasons.

Section of the street Königsstuhl near Bad Berneck 472A001 Bad Berneck in the Fichtelgebirge
position
Münchberger Gneissasse The street section contains a profile through the Berneck gneiss wedge with strong folds and steep faults. In the east (at the old quarry behind the gas station) the so-called hanging wall series with blastomylonitic hornblende gneisses is exposed. In the west there are outcrops of the so-called reclining series made of muscovite - biotite gneiss and garnet-bearing eye gneisses in isolated street sections . The increased traffic does not allow stopping on the B 303 . 5000

Proterobas fractures on the ox head 472A003 Bischofsgrüner Forst
position
Fichtel Mountains There are numerous abandoned, ravine-like quarries on the northwest and southeast side of the Ochsenkopf. The elongated shape can be traced back to a gangue that was previously intensively mined despite its small thickness (<20 m) (trade name: green porphyry). In addition to the extraction of natural stone, the stone was of great importance for glass production in the region (including buttons, etc.). Gümbel (1874) recognized the rarity of this rock and called it Proterobas. The ox head is thus the type locality of this type of rock. The breaks on the northwest side of the summit are most impressive. 8000

Münchberger Gneissasse Four of the six cellars in Kellergasse can be accessed on guided tours (contact City of Goldkronach). The cellars allow an insight into the history of the development of the Franconian line (deformation and strain structures, armor). Due to the steep position of the layers, you can get from the lower to the upper end of the Kellergasse into increasingly older sections of the Middle Buntsandstein. Obermain-Bruchschollenland There are numerous rock cellars in the red sandstone under the Obermarkt Weidenberg. As early as 1935 Goller recorded the sequence of layers from the upper to the middle red sandstone in 23 cellars almost completely. The irregular sandstone layers are broken up by clay layers. Small sinter formations arise in the top cellars. Individual cellars have recently been re-accessible for guided tours. 10000

Lochau - Neustädtlein hollow path 472A025 Eckersdorf
position
Obermain-Bruchschollenland The iron sandstone of the Dogger Beta forms a striking steep step in the landscape in which the ravine has cut. The various light gray to ocher-colored sandstone layers of the iron sandstone are exposed in the ravine. The layers of deposits are clearly visible in a half-cave. Thin layers of clay were deposited between the sandstone layers. The ravine was also carved through a longer section of rock in the middle part, as shown by traces of processing in the sandstone (Fig. 4). In the lower part, the path flattens in the softer rock of the Opalinus Clay (Dogger Alpha). The half cave may not be entered because of the risk of collapse. 6000

Fichtel Mountains Quartz veins with hydrothermal hematite mineralization were mined on Gleißinger Fels. While iron luster or iron mica (silver iron) used to be extracted for iron production, it was later used as a component of corrosion protection paints. Mining on Gleißinger Fels was mentioned as early as 1478. In addition to open-cast mining, ore was also extracted underground from 1802 onwards. Mining was not stopped until 1939. Part of the tunnel system is now accessible as a visitor mine. 400

The gold-bearing quartz-antimony-arsenic veins were mined from the 14th to the 20th century. The appr. 40 m long main gallery shows the gold-bearing quartz vein, which was coveted at the time, but is deaf here. The tunnel can be visited as a show mine from May to September. 80

Alum mine in Rother Park near Bad Berneck 472G004 Bad Berneck in the Fichtelgebirge
position
Münchberger Gneissasse The tunnel of the alum mine, which was closed in 1841, is located in the dendrological garden of Rother Park. Alexander von Humboldt tested self-developed equipment (lights and a breathing apparatus) during a tour. The tunnel, which is still passable for approx. 170 m, is not open to the public. Above the tunnel there is a shaft with a reconstructed bucket and reel system. Explanatory boards provide information about the mine. 1000

Tunnel on Mittelberg N of Warmensteinach 472G005 Warmensteinach
position
Fichtel Mountains Mining has been practiced on Mittelberg N of Warmensteinach at least since the beginning of modern times. First the iron ore (siderite and brown iron stone, partly pseudomorphic after siderite) occurring on a hydrothermal vein was extracted, later - up to the 19th century - also fluorspar. Side rock is a presumably Cambrian phyllite. The neglectful middle day tunnel was made accessible as part of a nature trail, secured and explained by an information board. The site is under protection as a ground monument (tunnel: monument no. D-4-5936-0038, shaft: monument no. D-4- 5936-0037, Pingenfeld: monument no. D-4-5936-0036) . 200

Eisenglimmer-Bergwerk Resistance ESE from Bischofsgrün 472G007 Bischofsgrüner Forst
position
Fichtel Mountains From the beginning to the middle of the 18th century, iron mica was mined from a quartz passage east of today's federal highway. The mouth hole, which has been restored and barred by the Fichtelgebirgsverein, belongs to a tunnel that drained the mines under the B303 and is still the origin of a brook (tunnel well) today. The mining area is clearly explained on display boards with maps and profiles. The timber of the tunnel could be dated to 1722 and 1723 (fell time). Burglary and mining pegs with heaps are located along the quartz corridor that runs parallel to the main road. The geotope and natural monument sacrificial tub is located 70 m southeast of the mouth hole. The geotope is under protection as a ground monument (monument no. D-4-5937-0060). 150,000

Historic feldspar mine at Bärenbühl NW of Streitau 472G008 Gefrees
position
Münchberger Gneissasse At Bärenbühl near Streitau, albite pegmatoid was mined from 1938 to 1945 in several small pits as feldspar raw material for the ceramic industry. Dumps still bear witness to the mining, in the former open-cast mine the pegmatoids (Hornblende band gneiss) are located. This is the only one of a total of around 30 former feldspar pits in the Münchberger Masse from which traces of mining have been preserved. The geotope can be easily reached from a hiking trail (marking: blue point) that passes just below it via a forest path. 5500

Tin stone used to be mined here in the pits Friedrich-Carls-Glück (in the lower part) and Glückauf (in the upper part). In the area directly below the lake house, mining was also carried out underground. The tunnel mouth hole is no longer there, but heaps are still clearly visible.
