The hill rock (. 745 m above sea level) is a granite - rock castle and a protected natural monument on the northern slope of the ox head in the Fichtelgebirge (northeastern Bavaria).

The mattress-like weathered forms of the granite stand out particularly well on hill cliffs. In the lower area of ​​the rock group there is a large granite cave. In the south-eastern stone area there are several weathering hollows called druid bowls in the granite.

The hill rock is designated as a valuable geotope by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (Geotope number: 472R003).

From the town hall in Bischofsgrün the marked hiking trail leads 1.5 kilometers through the town south to the Ochsenkopf area with the sign “Hügelfelsen”.

history

The “hill on the northern lowland of the Ochsenkopf” was mentioned as early as 1811, “where nature has piled up a remarkable rock building with various beautiful caves and grottoes.” The top platform of the rock group, which is open to tourists, is a popular vantage point , secured with an iron railing with a view of Bischofsgrün and the Hohe Haide.
