The Middle-Name-Gottes-Stollen and the Schmutzlerzeche are two show mines on the Goldberg near Brandholz , part of the Upper Franconian town of Goldkronach .
The two adjacent tunnels can be reached on the Goldberg via fire wood. In addition to the Goldkronach Gold Mining Museum , a central information point on site offers another contact point from which the show mines can be visited. The area is on the Humboldt hiking trail. Both former mines are geotopes in the Bayreuth district .
The Name-Gottes-Stollen was a civic gallery at the end of the 15th century and passed into margravial ownership under Georg Friedrich . The mining stopped at the beginning of the 19th century. The middle tunnel has been accessible as a visitor mine since 1993.
The dirtler tunnel was also built at the end of the 15th century. During the Thirty Years' War dismantling came to a standstill and was resumed by Margrave Christian Ernst around 1665. At the end of the 18th century the rapidly declining mining was finally stopped. From the 340 meter long middle tunnel, 40 meters and a 20 meter long side tunnel are accessible. It was opened to visitors in 1985.
According to a legend, the luck of the people on the Goldberg to make finds depends on the favor of the gold elves and their gold king.
The Schmutzler tunnel has been designated as a valuable geotope by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (geotope number: 472G003) and the Name-Gottes-tunnel as a particularly valuable geotope (geotope number: 472G006).
