The Goldkronach Gold Mining Museum is a local history museum that has been further developed as a mining museum and deals in particular with the mining of gold in the immediate vicinity of the Upper Franconian town of Goldkronach .

The museum building is the former forester's house , built by the von Waldenfels family . Alexander von Humboldt lived there for a short time. It is a listed building . The museum began in 1987 as a local history museum and has been located in the former forester's house since 2004; the town's history is still documented on the ground floor alongside special exhibitions. The history of mining in the region is presented on the first floor. In addition to gold, silver and numerous minerals, including antimonite , were mined. Mining began in the Middle Ages and was already mentioned when the village was founded, documented since 1363. The mining lasted until the 20th century, which was mainly concentrated on the adjacent Goldberg . There an information point prepares the two visitor mines .

Part of the exhibition is also the former superstition of the miners, even Georgius Agricola describes mythical creatures in his otherwise scientific work and differentiates between good and bad mountain spirits .
