Dieter Krumpholz (* 1941 ; † April 22, 1966 near Flöha ) was a German motorcycle racer .

He was the son of Erhart Krumpholz , who was a works driver at IFA and MZ in Zschopau in the 1950s and 1960s .

Career

Dieter Krumpholz's career was encouraged by his father at an early age. In 1962 he was accepted into the MZ team, where he piloted the 125 cm³ factory machines together with Heinz Rosner and Klaus Enderlein . On August 19, 1962, father and son even competed in a race together at the GDR Grand Prix at the Sachsenring . Erhart started his last international run in the 50 cm³ category and Dieter competed in the eight-liter class.

Dieter Krumpholz quickly developed into a top driver. In 1963 he won the motorcycle road championship of the GDR in the 125 cm³ category. In the 1964 season , Krumpholz achieved his first point in the motorcycle world championship with sixth place at the Finnish Grand Prix in Imatra .

In the following year in the rain after a hard fight with the eventual winner, the British Frank Perris in a Suzuki , he finished second at his home Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, which earned him eleventh place in the overall ranking with the Japanese Yoshimi Katayama . At the Austrian Grand Prix in Salzburg - Liefering , which is not part of the World Cup , Dieter Krumpholz won the quarter liter run. He won nationally in 1964 on the Bernauer Loop , the Schleizer Dreieckrennen , on the Bautzener Autobahnring , on the Frohburger Dreieck and on the Autobahnspinne Dresden each in the quarter liter class.

On Friday, April 22, 1966 Dieter Krumpholz's career came to an abrupt end when he was killed in a traffic accident near Flöha near Karl-Marx-Stadt . He was on a test drive on public roads when he collided with a truck on the serpentine route from Flöha up to Augustusburg . He left behind his wife and their daughter.
