history

Mengersdorf Manor

Until the church is planted

The burgraviate of Nuremberg had been the territorial lord in the municipality since 1248. The place itself was first mentioned in 1360 as "Mistelgow". The place name originally referred to a landscape for which the mistletoe population was characteristic (basic word gou , mhd. , Region, landscape, Gau; defining word: mistletoe (bach)).

The first written mention of the place was in the year 1379. From 1500 Mistelgau was in the Franconian Empire . As part of the Prussian principality of Bayreuth since 1792 , Mistelgau fell to France in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807. After the Kingdom of Bavaria bought the principality in 1810 , Mistelgau became Bavarian.

With the community edict (early 19th century) the rural community Mistelgau was formed, to which the Kreckenmühle belonged. It was under the administration and jurisdiction of the Bayreuth Regional Court and originally had an area of 8.436 km².

The Bayreuth – Hollfeld local railway , which opened on March 12, 1904 and where Mistelgau was given a train station , ran through the town . It had a station building in sandstone construction , an attached goods hall and an outbuilding. A passenger train ran for the last time on September 28, 1974, and the line was closed on September 18, 1975.

After 1925 the Striegelhof was built in the municipality .

Incorporations

The incorporations took place on April 1, 1971 (part of a municipality), on January 1 and July 1, 1972 (together five municipalities) and on May 1, 1978 (one municipality). On September 1, 2010, part of the community-free area of Löhlitzer Wald was incorporated. On March 1, 2020, parcels from the former community-free area Langweiler Wald were incorporated. From the municipality of Ahorntal, the part of the municipality Schöchleinsmühle was incorporated into the municipality of Mistelgau.

The associated part of the community, Streit, had been a Streitberg Reichslehen since the Middle Ages, awarded to the Pötzlingers. In 1690 the Stauffenberg taverns followed as feudal lords.

badges and flags

The Mistelgau community has had a coat of arms since 1986.

Mistelgau coat of arms
Blazon : “Above a shield base quartered withsilver and black, covered with a red heraldic rose with golden lugs and green sepals, split by red and silver; in front a silver unicorn body turned left, behind a vertical green mistletoe with silver fruits. "

White-red-white municipal flag

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms combines elements from the coats of arms of various noble families, which were important for the history of the municipality. The Zollernvierung points to the later Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth. The rose comes from the coat of arms of the Lords of Aufseß . The diminished unicorn from the coat of arms of the Lords of Lüschwitz reminds of their rule in the municipality.

Intermunicipal cooperation

The municipality of Mistelgau has been a member of the association for regional development “Around the Neubürg - Fränkische Schweiz e. V " .

Culture and sights

The Truppach castle is a square building with two floors. At the corners, bay-like turrets protrude over the roof. The castle has lost its fortified medieval character through various renovations. For the history of the noble seats in Truppach, see also Truppach (noble family) .

With a " belemnite battlefield " and the remains of dinosaurs , it is one of the most important fossil sites in Europe. The finds are part of the exhibition at the Urwelt Museum in Upper Franconia .
