history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1475 as "Wanngsgehaw" and should not have arisen much earlier, as its location on the mountain slope is extremely unfavorable. Such areas were usually made arable only when the favorable locations were already settled. The defining word of the place name is the personal name Wān (a short form of Wanfried), the founder of the place. The basic word "gehau" refers to the previous clearing . Until the end of the Old Empire , residential property was in the Fraisch district of the Bamberg office of Waischenfeld .
From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office of Bayreuth . With the Gemeindeedikt (early 19th century) which was Rural Municipality Wohnsgehaig formed, including the regions of Outer digging and Schöchleins belonged. It was under the administration and jurisdiction of the Hollfeld district court and had an area of 3.636 km².
On July 1, 1972, Wohnsgehaig was incorporated into the Mistelgau community as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
