Engelmeß is a part of the municipality of Mistelgau in the Bayreuth district in Upper Franconia ( Bavaria ).

geography

The village forms a closed settlement with the Seitenbach to the south . The side stream, a right influx of Truppach , the boundary between the two places. The Feilbrunnenbach flows into the village as a right tributary into the Seitenbach. In some geographic maps, the Seitenbach is sometimes referred to as the left tributary of the Feilbrunnenbach. State road 2186 runs directly north of the village and leads to Obernsees (4.3 km southwest) and Tröbersdorf (1.4 km west). A community road leads to Seitenbach (0.3 km south).

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1657 in a parish book, in 1692 as "Angel Fair". The place with its 5 12 days of work land could have been a foundation, the proceeds of which were used to hold an angel mass, a silent mass without the presence of worshipers. However, it is not known in which church these masses were celebrated. It is also conceivable that the place name was created by blending and aligning it with known terms.

From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office of Bayreuth . With the community edict (early 19th century) Engelmeß was assigned to the Mistelgau tax district and the Seitenbach rural community . On January 1, 1972, Engelmeß was incorporated into the Mistelgau community as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
