Mengersdorf is a district of the Mistelgau community in the Bayreuth district in Upper Franconia ( Bavaria ).

geography

The parish village lies on the Truppach and the Leimbach, which flows into the Truppach as a left tributary. Approx. One kilometer south is the wooded Lehenberg hill ( 472 m above sea level ), to the east is the wooded hill Streiter Berg ( 482 m above sea level ). To the west is the Mittlere Au corridor. A communal connection road leads to Truppach to state road 2186 (0.4 km northwest) or over Ausserleithen and Äußerer Graben to Wohnsgehaig (2.2 km southeast).

history

The Mengersdorf family has been documented since 1383 . Otto von Mengersdorf had built a manor in the town of the same name as his headquarters. The meaning of the place name remains unclear. Menger is derived either from the Middle High German term for traders or from a personal name (Meinger, Enger or Mengingoz). The ending -dorf was mainly used in the 9/10. Century used for a settlement, but does not necessarily indicate that the place was founded during this time.

The manor was burned down in the Peasants' War in 1525 and apparently again destroyed in the Second Margrave War (1552–1554). When the family died out in 1601, the estate was sold to the von Aufseß family , who had had a seat in the neighboring Truppach Castle for a long time .

With the community edict (early 19th century) Mengersdorf was assigned to the tax district Truppach . A little later, the rural community Mengersdorf was formed, to which the towns of Ausserleithen , Bärnreuth and Pensenleithen belonged. It was under the administration and jurisdiction of the Bayreuth Regional Court and had an area of 4.074 km². On January 1, 1969, she joined the community of Truppach, which was incorporated into the Mistelgau community on January 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
