In 1386 the place was mentioned by name as "Gisilinruite". In the land register of the Burggravial Office of Bayreuth from 1398 the place was called "Geyselnreut". The basic word of the place name -reuth refers to land reclamation through clearing, the designator indicates the founder of the place, a "Gisiler" or "Gisilo", both are male personal names of Germanic origin. In 1398 the place already consisted of ten fiefs, that is to say ten farms. There was also a mill and the Göritzen estate .
From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office of Bayreuth . With the community edict (early 19th century) Geislareuth was assigned to the Mistelgau tax district and the Seitenbach rural community . On January 1, 1972, Geislareuth was incorporated into the municipality of Mistelgau as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
