history

The area of ​​the municipality of Ahorntal, which emerged on January 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform from the former municipalities of Adlitz, Freiahorn, Kirchahorn (with the municipality of Christanz incorporated on April 1, 1971), Körzendorf, Oberailsfeld, Reizendorf and Volsbach, belonged to various imperial knights (Kirchahorn: Counts of Schönborn, Oberailsfeld: Barons of Rabenstein). With the Rhine Confederation Act , the area came to Bavaria in 1806 .

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the Poppendorf community was incorporated. On March 1, 2020, parcels from the former community-free area Langweiler Wald were incorporated. From the municipality of Ahorntal, the municipality part of Schöchleinsmühle was incorporated into the municipality of Mistelgau.

Florian Questel ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) has been mayor since February 2019 . His predecessor from 2014 until his resignation for health reasons in September 2018 was Gerd Hofmann (Free Citizens Ahorntal, Free Ahorntal Voting Association). In the meantime Johannes Knauer (Christian Voters Union) took over the official business as 2nd mayor. Herbert Dannhäußer (Christian Voting Union) was mayor until 2014.

Oberailsfeld Church

Ahorntal is predominantly Roman Catholic . The annual light procession in Oberailsfeld on December 20th and in Volsbach on December 23rd are events worth seeing. There are several churches in the districts.

Rabenstein Castle

Breweries

In the municipality of Ahorntal, the Held-Bräu brewery in Oberailsfeld has existed since 1680, the Stöckel brewery in Hintergereuth since 1866 and the Nanni-Bräu in Freiahorn since 2008.
