List of the bishops of Worms

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of the bishops of Worms names the bishops and auxiliary bishops of the diocese of Worms .

Lists of bishops for late antiquity and the period of migration are not available. The first reliable naming of a bishop of Worms occurs in the year 614. Only after the end of the East Franconian Empire is the tradition without major gaps.

From 1792 the area on the left bank of the Rhine of the Worms diocese and bishopric was occupied by French revolutionary troops and gradually secularized until 1801 . In 1803 it finally ceased to exist. The part of the diocese on the left bank of the Rhine was added first to the French Grand Diocese of Mainz, then to the German dioceses of Mainz and Speyer , while the part of the right bank of the Rhine continued as the Vicariate of Lampertheim until 1827 and later also came to the Diocese of Mainz and also partly to the Archdiocese of Freiburg .
