Leonhard Wisbach
Leonhard Wisbach (* in the 15th century; † before 1500) was a Dominican and from 1480 until his death (before 1500) auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Worms and titular bishop of Sudak .
Live and act
Wisbach belonged to the Strasbourg Dominican Convent and had acquired his Baccalaureus biblicus on January 29, 1475 . From January 8, 1476 he studied theology under Nicolaus Matz at the University of Freiburg . Here he received the theological on 10 November 1477 licentiate and doctorate on 27 August 1478 to Theologiae Doctor . His fellow students in Freiburg were the Augsburg and later Strasbourg or Constance canon Count Heinrich VII of Montfort-Rothenfels (1456–1512), as well as his younger brother Hugo XV. from Montfort-Rothenfels-Wasserburg († 1519).
Bishop Reinhard I. von Sickingen appointed Leonhard Wisbach in 1480 as auxiliary bishop of Worms and Pope Sixtus IV thereupon appointed him titular bishop of Sudak in the Crimea . He received his episcopal ordination on October 28, 1480 in the German national church Santa Maria dell'Anima in Rome . After the death of Bishop Reinhard I (1482) he performed his office under his successor Johann III. from Dalberg . According to the epitaph, Wisbach was also the prince-bishop's deputy in spiritual matters ( vicar general ).
He died before 1500 and was buried in Worms Cathedral ; Georg Helwich and Johann Friedrich Schannat tell us about the appearance and location of the grave. In both cases, only the century is given of the year of death, since the rest of the number was illegible.
