Janez Kranjc

Janez Kranjc (born May 11, 1949 in Ljubljana , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian lawyer and legal historian .

Kranjc studied law in Ljubljana from 1971, where he finally received his doctorate in 1980. Study visits to Vienna, Cambridge and Cologne followed before he was appointed Associate Professor of Roman Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Ljubljana in 1987 . His main areas of study are Roman law, its reception of the Middle Ages, Roman process maxims and the ethical assumptions on which they are based.

Krajnc presided over the Slovenian Judicial Council and was awarded the Zoisova nagrada in 2010 .
