Simon von Schöneck

Simon von Schöneck , (*?; † October 22, 1291 , in Frankenthal (Pfalz) ) was Bishop of Worms .

Simon from the von Schöneck family was born as the son of Philip I von Schöneck and his wife Aleidis von Steckelberg . Bishop Emmerich von Schöneck was his brother, Konrad IV von Schöneck his nephew.

Before his election as Bishop of Worms, Simon von Schöneck was dean of the cathedral in Mainz , as well as provost of the St. Viktor monastery there and the St. Peter and Alexander monastery in Aschaffenburg . In 1268 he appears as archdeacon of the rural chapter of Bensheim .

He ruled the diocese of Worms for eight years, three months and four days from 1283 until his death . In the meantime, he earned great merits and, as the Worms chronicler Friedrich Zorn (1538–1610) writes , was given the nickname Spiegel der Geistlichen because of his respectability, great virtue and spiritual change .

He died on November 21, 1291 in Frankenthal and was buried in the church of the local monastery , in front of the high altar.
