Gerold Bönnen

Gerold Bönnen (born January 17, 1964 ) is a German historian and director of the Worms City Archives and the Worms Jewish Museum .

Life

Bönnen studied history , political science and German at the University of Trier . In 1993 he received his doctorate there on “The episcopal city of Toul and its surroundings during the high and late Middle Ages” . From 1994 he completed the training for the higher archival service, which he completed in 1996 with the archival state examination. Since 1996 he has been director of the city archive and the Jewish Museum in Worms .

As managing director of the Worms Antiquities Association , Bönnen is co-editor of the Der Wormsgau yearbook . He is a lecturer in medieval history at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg ; In 2011 he was appointed honorary professor there.

Research priorities

Bönnen's main research interests are the comparative city ​​history with a focus on Lorraine and Rhineland , the history of medieval religious institutions, the history of the city of Worms and its surrounding area, and archives .

Bönnen is a member of the Hessian Historical Commission Darmstadt , the Commission for the History of the Jews in Hesse , the Society for Research into the History of the Jews and the Advisory Board of the Southwest German Working Group for Urban History Research . He is head of the working group of the municipal archives in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.
