The Goldkronacher forestry was until 31 December 2018, an unincorporated community in Goldkronach in the district of Bayreuth . The area has an area of 18.02 km², lies on the south-western edge of the Fichtel Mountains and is now part of the municipalities of Bad Berneck in the Fichtel Mountains , Goldkronach and Warmensteinach . The steep ascent in the west is connected to altitudes of up to 850  m above sea level. NN at. With the White Main and the Kronach, two bodies of water flow through the forest, which shape the landscape and townscape of the neighboring communities. Originally mixed mountain forests of spruce , fir , beech and maple covered the area.

This changed when man began to exploit the rich precious metal deposits in the Middle Ages . The forest was in the center of the flourishing Goldkronach gold mining industry, the population's demand for wood grew and pre-industrial blast furnaces and hammer mills were built on the White Main. The gaps torn by the enormous wood consumption of the mining and smelting companies recovered only slowly and were noticeable well into the 20th century. Great successes have been achieved through measures such as the reintroduction of tree species that were once common.

The area is part of the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park and is used by the residents of the surrounding communities as a recreation area. Scattered over the Goldkronacher Forest there are testimonies of mining , the steep drop to the west offers a distant view of the Upper Main floodplain landscape to the Franconian Alb .

The community-free area of Goldkronacher Forst was dissolved on January 1, 2019 and divided between the cities of Bad Berneck in the Fichtelgebirge (north) and Goldkronach (west) and the community of Warmensteinach (east).
