List of geotopes in Hof

This list contains the geotopes of the Upper Franconian town of Hof in Bavaria . The list contains the official names and numbers of the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) as well as their geographical location. This list may not be complete. Around 3,400 geotopes (as of March 2020) are recorded in the Bavarian geotope register. The LfU does not consider some geotopes suitable for publication on the Internet. For example, some objects are not safely accessible or may only be entered to a limited extent for other reasons.

Franconian Forest In the Eichelberg quarry, a sliding block from Upper Devonian flaserkalk was previously mined within the Lower Carboniferous Grauwacken slate series of the Bavarian facies. There were different varieties of this Theresienstein marble. A dense, gray limestone with black and green fibers and white calcite fissures is still accessible today. Franconian Forest The old town quarry is located in the grounds of the Meinel brewery in Hof. The revelation, already visited and drawn by Goethe, had already been abandoned at that time. Over a long period of time, the weathering was able to remove the structures of the flaky lime so that the folds became visible. The material from this quarry was used in many ways in Hof (foundations, city walls, retaining walls), which can still be seen in the city today. Franconian Forest In the old quarry on Labyrinthberg, v. a. in the 19th century diabase and diabase breccias were dismantled for road construction in Hof. The break became famous for the occurrence of cat eyes, which were even made into jewelry.
