Otto Konrad (painter)

Otto Konrad (born October 30, 1924 in Oberschefflenz ; † July 22, 1970 in Kürnbach ) was a painter and graphic artist . He lived and worked in Kürnbach in what is now the Karlsruhe district in north-western Baden-Württemberg .

Life

Otto Konrad was born in 1924 as the son of a railway worker in Oberschefflenz, Baden. After attending primary school in Adelsheim , he went to high school in Mosbach . His school years were interrupted from 1942 to 1945 due to his participation as a soldier in World War II . After the war he attended grammar school in Eberbach am Neckar, where he passed his Abitur in 1947. From 1947 to 1950 he made an apprenticeship as a painter and plasterer, which he completed with the journeyman's examination. His artistic training then began with his one and a half year attendance at the master school for the jewelry and precious metal industry in Pforzheim . He then studied painting and graphics for four years at the Karlsruhe Art Academy .

Otto Konrad went to higher education as an art and geography teacher. The stations of his professional life were the Helmholtz-Gymnasium Karlsruhe , the Melanchthon-Gymnasium Bretten and the Hartmanni-Gymnasium Eppingen . Until his early and sudden death, he worked as a senior teacher in Eppingen .

He lived with his wife and two children Karin and Peter in his house on the outskirts of Kürnbach, where he created his oil paintings, watercolors, etchings, wood and linocuts, and charcoal and silver pen drawings.

Many of his pictures show the landscape of the Kraichgau , the Neckar Valley or the Odenwald . The places where the artist lived were recorded in his pictures, such as Kürnbach and Eppingen. Otto Konrad mastered a variety of artistic techniques and also created iron sculptures, wooden reliefs and sgraffitos . He was particularly fond of animal and portrait painting. He rejected abstraction for his work, non-representational art was alien to him.
