Johann Caspar Ludwig Mencke

Johann Caspar Ludwig Mencke also: Mencken (born September 8, 1752 in Wittenberg , † July 22, 1795 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Johann Caspar Ludwig Mencke was born in Wittenberg in 1752 as the son of the lawyer Leonhard Ludwig Mencke (1711–1762). He was first taught privately and attended the Princely School in Grimma from September 12, 1764 to September 14, 1770 . Since September 29, 1770 he studied at the University of Wittenberg . On May 11, 1775, he passed his practical examination as a notary and subsequently became court master of young noblemen. In 1777 he went to Halle (Saale), continued his studies there and received his doctorate in law in 1780 . Mencke then held lectures, was associate professor of law in 1787, was promoted to full professorship in 1789 and was associated with it as a member of the law faculty of the university.

Mencke died on July 22, 1795, at the age of 42, in Halle. He was buried on July 25, 1795 in Halle's Stadtgottesacker , his grave is in crypt arch no.44.
