Klaus-Stephan Trepte (born July 20, 1950 in Biehla near Kamenz; † July 22, 2020 in Panketal ) was a German rock musician .

Life

Stephan Trepte received classical piano training as a child and also played the guitar . Beginning around 1966/67, during his apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer in mill construction with a high school diploma, he played keyboard and sang in the amateur bands Quintanas and Stereo-Club. In between there were one and a half years of military service with singing group activity. After that he worked as a mechanical engineer and also performed with his band. As was customary at the time, mainly international titles were played along with the dance.

On one such occasion, in 1972 in Pockau in the Erzgebirge , he received an offer from the Dresden band electra to join as a singer. This engagement brought him forward musically; his singing, his stage presence and vitality made him known nationwide. Above all, the play Step into the Cathedral contributed to this. However, the text caused political irritation because of its subject matter and was hardly played on the radio. At electra, Trepte wrote his first own compositions, but these have not yet been published.

In 1974, after tensions at electra, Trepte switched to the newly formed band Lift . Here, too, titles quickly emerged that established Trepte's reputation as an expressive singer (Soldat vom Don, Atlantis). After an unsatisfactory tour for him, however, he decided in 1976 to leave Lift.

This was followed by a short interlude with the band Neon, before Jörg Blankenburg, head of the Magdeburg band Reform , offered him in 1977 to work as a singer and composer for Reform. Trepte moved to Magdeburg and released three albums with Reform. He composed most of the pieces, partly worked on Ingeburg Branoner's texts and also wrote the lyrics himself.

In 1986 Reform dissolved. Trepte then sang in projects with musicians such as Peter Werneburg , Horst Krüger and former colleagues from Lift and electra (1989 to 2015). In 2015 he gave his last concert. He also worked in theater productions such as The Rocky Horror Show and in readings.

He has four sons; the youngest is the actor Ludwig Trepte . Stephan Trepte died on July 22, 2020, two days after his 70th birthday.
