Reform was a German singing rock band from Magdeburg that existed from 1975 to 1986. The GDR record company Amiga released three LPs by the band. The band name is a tribute to the Magdeburg district of Reform and should symbolize the efforts of the band to create "new tones" in rock music.
history
In 1975 the guitarist Jörg Matze Blankenburg, who came from the Klosterbrüder group , founded the band Reform with Mike Demnitz ( bass ), Peter Piele ( drums ), Werner Kunze ( guitar , keyboard ) and Frank Schönfeld ( vocals , flute , alto saxophone ). After two years, the singer Stephan Trepte joined them. He came from the group Lift and became the band's new front man. Mike Demnitz was replaced by Jörg Dobbersch for two years before he returned to Reform. Ingeburg Branoner wrote most of the lyrics . The first reform title Nebel , produced on the radio , immediately reached number 1 in the rating program “ Beatkiste ” on “ Voice of the GDR ”. The first LP, called Reform , was released in 1979. A short time later, Peter Beppo Förster joined the band as the new drummer and Günter Grete Fischer as the new guitarist. In 1981 the violinist Hans Wintoch became a member of Reform. In 1982, after the LP Der Löwenzahn was released, Marcus Schloussen took over the bass, Thomas Kolbe the keyboards and Christian Jähnig the drums. In 1984 Wintoch left the band; since then he has performed as Hans the violin . In 1985 the third and final LP was released, watches without hands , and the band's founder Jörg Blankenburg left Reform due to hearing problems. In 1986 Michael Lehrmann joined the band as the new guitarist and Reinhard Repke as the bassist. But reform dissolved a short time later.
style
Reform made rock music whose guitar style was based on Wishbone Ash and whose orchestral style of music was based on Genesis and Gentle Giant . Some of the pieces can be counted as art rock , others are rather sophisticated pop music . In some pieces the joke dominates (for example in Broad Beans , where a potential partner has to share the singer's preference for broad beans), sometimes the index finger is raised clearly ( Death and the Maiden ).
