Hans Wintoch alias Hans die Geige (born October 1, 1954 in Kropstädt near Wittenberg ) is a German rock violinist, band and studio musician.

Musical development

Wintoch began taking violin lessons at the age of five. From 1961 to 1965 he attended the Sangerhausen Music School and from 1965 to 1969 the Special School for Music in Halle (Saale) . From the age of 16 he studied at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar . During his studies he switched from serious music to popular music and played in various amateur bands.

His start as a professional musician took place in 1975 in the Sieghart-Schubert formation (later the Schubert band). The band, led by Sieghart Schubert, played jazz-oriented rock at the time . In 1978 Wintoch changed to the band Report from Halle (Saale). In the same year he went to Stefan Diestelmann in Berlin , before joining Magdeburg in 1979 . Wintoch, who played keyboard with Magdeburg, submitted a collective application to leave the country with the band after being banned from appearing on GDR television , which he later withdrew with two other band members. As a result of the events at that time, the band lost their license and broke up. Wintoch then played briefly in the band Clover before becoming a violinist in reform boarding from Magdeburg. When Till Patzer and Werther Lohse von Lift returned to the original musical concept of this band after a jazz-oriented phase in 1984 and were looking for another keyboardist in addition to Michael Heubach , Wintoch switched to this band. But Lift could not build on their earlier successes, so that Wintoch and Heubach left the band a year later.

From then on he played as a guest musician with Engerling , Monokel , the Jonathan Blues Band and Kerth . When Wintoch first appeared as a soloist on the violin in rock music at the DT64 concert , that was the beginning of his career as Hans the violin . In 1988 the GDR label Amiga published his first solo record with compositions by Michael Heubach, Sieghart Schubert and Wintoch himself. Wolfgang Kobischke, Michael Heubach, Moritz Schubert and Uwe Hassbecker accompanied him on this long-playing record . Wintoch is still active as a soloist today and occasionally takes to the stage with well-known "Ostrockers". One of the highlights is the concert on May 20, 2007 in Mittweida , where he and Peter Caesar Gläser performed the Eric Clapton song Tears in Heaven in memory of the fatally injured Renft musician Heinz Prüfer . As a soloist, he moves from rock to blues and jazz to classical music.
