Patrick Newell

Patrick Newell (born March 27, 1932 in Hadleigh , England , † July 22, 1988 in Essex , England) was a British actor .

Life

Patrick Newell's particular characteristic was his fullness. He was best known for her role as the secret service chief Mutter in the role of With Umbrella, Charm and Melon ( The Avengers ) at the end of the sixties.

After his school days he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art along with later celebrities such as B. Albert Finney or Peter O'Toole , whose acting skills, in his humble assessment, far surpassed his own achievements. Newell then intentionally put on weight in order to open up his own niche in the role spectrum. He himself wrote in his entry on Who's Who On Television in the late 1970s that he was an actor with a weight problem - the more he lost weight, the fewer roles he would be offered.

Newell was soon to be seen frequently in television films and series, in both comic and dramatic roles. In the latter case, it was mostly the role of the obese villain. His plump appearance and his talent for portraying stupid types predestined him for the role of the henchman in various comedy shows and series. He received his first film role in 1955 in the film Dial 999 , but the offers to Patrick Newell mostly covered the same character class. Ultimately, Newell was thereby committed to this role subject, which often hindered him in his later career, although he had great acting talent, which benefited in particular from his expressive facial expressions. However, there were no really good offers. In 1981 alone, Newell played solid roles in three television series, none of which was really successful.

The weight of his body, which Newell had acquired to keep him in demand in the acting business, was also likely the cause of Patrick Newell's short life. He died of heart failure in 1988.
