Oscar Fredrik Bernadotte Byström (born October 13, 1821 in Stockholm , † July 22, 1909 there ) was a Swedish composer .

Life

Oscar Byström was a son of the military musician and composer of the same name Thomas Byström (1810-1870) . From 1867 to 1872 Byström was inspector of the Conservatory in Stockholm and then until 1876 director of the music association concerts in Åbo / Finland . From 1882 he ran his own music school in Stockholm. He became known as the editor of medieval Swedish hymns and the hymns of Martin Luther .

Byström created several instrumental compositions, among which the D minor symphony should be mentioned as well as the overture and several numbers from the operetta Hermann Vimpel .
