Hermann I. (Munster)
Hermann I († July 22, 1042 ) was the 14th Bishop of Münster from 1032 until his death in 1042 . There is no information about his ancestry and his date of birth, but he is ascribed to the Billunger family .
During Hermann's tenure as Bishop of Münster, the Überwasser Abbey was founded in Münster . Its inauguration took place in 1040 in the presence of Emperor Heinrich III. as well as a multitude of clergy and nobles. A reliquary monstrance , which, according to its inscription, was a gift from Henry III, testifies to a good relationship between emperor and bishop . to Hermann and is in the cathedral treasury in St. Paulus Cathedral .
