Siegfried (Munster)

Siegfried von Walbeck († November 27, 1032 ) was the 13th Bishop of Münster from 1022 until his death in 1032 . Before that he was abbot of the Berge monastery near Magdeburg from 1009 to 1022 . He was the third son of Count Siegfried von Walbeck and his wife Kunigunde von Stade and thus belonged to the Walbeck Count House . His brother Thietmar von Merseburg was Bishop of Merseburg . His date of birth is not known.

Related to the Billungers through his mother , he enjoyed his upbringing in the Berge monastery near Magdeburg in his childhood. In 1009 he was made abbot there . After the death of his cousin Dietrich I , he succeeded him as Bishop of Munster. During his tenure he was in conflict with the Counts of Werl . In 1027 he took part in the Synod of Frankfurt .
