Johann Stromer

Johann Stromer (born July 22, 1526 in Auerbach in the Upper Palatinate ; † October 11, 1607 in Jena ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Stromer was born as the tenth child of councilor Johann Stromer and his wife Catharina Kelner. In 1536 he went to school in Nuremberg and was sent to Leipzig after nine months. He enrolled at the University of Leipzig in the summer semester of 1536 and acquired the philosophical baccalaureate in the winter semester of 1543. During the time of the Schmalkaldic War he gave up his studies and was a soldier during the siege of Leipzig. He then continued his legal studies on November 12, 1548 at the University of Wittenberg . Here Benedikt Pauli , Johann Schneidewein , Laurentius Lindemann , Joachim von Beust and Michael Teuber became his teachers.

Some time later he returned to Leipzig, where Pierre Loriot, Ludwig Fachs , Paul Lobwasser (1513–1566) and Modestinus Pistoris were his teachers. In 1559 he became a legal baccalaurus. In 1560 he received his licentiate and a doctorate in law. In 1566 he became professor of the institutes in Leipzig and in 1568 professor of the Codex. In 1570 he was rector of the Leipzig University , in 1578 he became chancellor in Weimar and in 1587 professor of canon law at the University of Jena . He became director of the Jena consistory and court court. He also participated in the organizational tasks of the Salina and was rector of the alma mater in the summer semester of 1590 and 1600 .

Stromer died on October 11, 1607 and was buried in Jena on October 13.

Stromer was married twice. His first marriage was on August 27, 1555 in Leipzig with Anna Volckmar (* around 1530 in Leipzig; born September 12, 1580 in Weimar), the daughter of Augustin Volckmar (* around 1490 in Leipzig; † November 11, 1550 ibid .). The marriage resulted in seven sons and two daughters. After the death of his first wife, Stromer married Catharina Börner (* 1564 in Jena; † 23 October 1622 ibid.) In 1582, the daughter of the Count of Schwartzburg Chancellor Johann Börner and widow of Johann Breutheupt in Kreuzburg. A son and a daughter result from the marriage.
