Ludwig Fach

Ludwig Fachs (born January 31, 1497 in Langensalza ; † April 6, 1554 in Leipzig ) was a German lawyer and several times Mayor of Leipzig between 1534 and 1552 .

Fachs had studied at the University of Leipzig since 1512 . Since 1522 he has been a member of the law faculty. In 1542 he was finally appointed full professor .

In princely services he worked as an assessor at the Saxon High Court from 1532 . From the summer of 1548 he was Chancellor of Duke Moritz von Sachsen , but resigned from this office in March 1549. Even after that, however, he was often consulted on legal and religious issues.

Fachs had been a member of the Leipzig council since 1524. When the Reformation was introduced in Leipzig in 1541, he was still one of the advocates of the old faith among the councilors, although in a humanistic sense he was quite ready for church reforms. On the other hand, the church historian Günther Wartenberg attested to him in later times a "cautious evangelical attitude".
