Dioris Valladares

Nelson Isidro de la Altagracia Valladares ( Dioris Valladares ; born August 14, 1916 in San Pedro de Macoris ; † July 22, 2001 ) was a Puerto Rican composer, arranger, singer, band leader, guitarist and percussionist.

Valladares began his musical career in the USA in the late 1930s, where he toured with various rumba groups. During the Second World War he served in the USA Army. After 1945 he worked a. a. with the orchestras of Xavier Cugat , Noro Morales , Anselmo Sacasas , José Curbelo , Enric Madriguera and Roger King Mozian . In 1950 he became a member of Juan Sanabrias band in Havana Madrid Night Club was located on Broadway and a year at the Harvest Moon Ball of the Daily News occurred.

After success with Sanabria in Club Caborrojeña , Rafael Pérez engaged him and the band for recordings on his label Ansonio Records . After these recordings were also successful, Pérez organized a Conjunto Típico Cibaeño with Valladares as lead singer and Angel Viloria as band leader and accordionist. The recordings of this and other merengue groups from the early 1950s appeared on Ansinio's album Angel Viloria y su Conjunto Típico Cibaeño .

The group broke up in 1953 when the saxophonist Rámon García and the Tambora player Luis Quintero as well as Viloria and Valladares founded their own bands. Valladares' band resided for two years at the Gloria Palace in New York's Germantown, and more LPs were made with Ansonia. In 1961 he signed a contract with the Alegre label and published the Pachanga -LP Vete Pa'l Colegio there ; the title track was composed by Roger King Mozian based on a text by Alegre's founder Al Santiago . In 1973 the LP Yo La Vi Vol. II followed . He later appeared on several Cesta All-Stars albums: Live Jam Session (late 1960s), Salsa Festival and Pa 'Bailar Na' Ma (1977). He had lived on Long Island since the 1980s and only performed occasionally.
