Ezekiel "Zeke" Elliott (born July 22, 1995 in Alton , Illinois ) is an American American football player on the position of running back . He played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes before being selected fourth by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2016 NFL Draft .

High school

Elliott attended the John Burroughs School in Ladue , Missouri , where he also played basketball and athletics in addition to football . He played for the John Burroughs Bombers as a running back and as a junior he ran 1,802 yards and 34 touchdowns . As a senior, he gained a total of 3,061 yards of space and 50 touchdowns in the passing and running game . Scout.com rated him at the end of his high school career in 2013 as a four-star talent and ninth-best running back of his class.

college

As a freshman at Ohio State University , he was a substitute for Carlos Hyde in 2013 and ran 262 yards and two touchdowns for the Buckeyes in 30 attempts. After Hyde moved to the NFL, Elliott took over the role of starter a year later and contributed to the play-offs with 1,878 yards run and 18 touchdowns . In the Sugar Bowl against the top seeded team from the University of Alabama , he ran another 230 yards and was named the offensive player of the game. With 246 yards and four touchdowns, he then helped the Buckeyes in the CFP National Championship Game against the Oregon Ducks to the championship title and was again elected to the offensive MVP .

After the surprising 14:17 loss to Michigan State , Elliott announced on November 21, 2015 that he would participate in the 2016 NFL Draft , despite the possibility of playing college football for another year . He finished his college career with a total of 3,961 run yards as the second best in school history after Archie Griffin , but before Eddie George .

NFL

Elliott was considered the best running back and potential top 10 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft . Ultimately, he was picked fourth by the Dallas Cowboys . On November 20, 2016, in a game against the Baltimore Ravens , Ezekiel Elliott broke the Dallas Cowboys franchise record for most rookie yards . The former record was 1,007 yards and was held by Tony Dorsett . In his rookie season, Elliott was elected to the Pro Bowl .

Suspension 2017

On August 11, 2017, prior to the 2017 season , Elliott was banned from the NFL for the first six regular season games on allegations of domestic violence . The incident occurred in Columbus, Ohio in July 2016 . Elliott was not charged with any crime at the time, but the NFL found the evidence to be sufficient. On August 15, 2017, Elliott filed an appeal in due time to prove his girlfriend's incredibility, as was the case with the police. After the appeal was processed by an arbitrator, the 6-game ban initially remained. Elliott was allowed to play the first game of the regular season because there was a time delay due to the appeal review. After dismissing the appeal, Elliott took the case to the United States District Court , which suspended Elliott's ban. An initial appeal to this decision by the NFL was rejected. The case was subsequently brought to the next higher instance, the United States Court of Appeals . After Elliott's lawyers had exhausted all legal delay attempts during the current season, the 6-game ban came into effect from the 10th game week of the 2017 season, even if there was no final decision on the case. On November 15, 2017, the appeal was dropped and the ban was accepted.

2018

In the 2018 season , Elliott ran 1,434 yards with six touchdowns and was also increasingly used as a pass receiver. He got 77 pass catches for a further 567 yards of space and another three touchdowns. For the second time since 2016, he secured the top spot in the NFL for Laufyards - even though the Cowboys did not use him in the last regular season game in order to spare him for the upcoming play-offs . In the Divisional Round of the play-offs, the Cowboys lost to the Los Angeles Rams at 10:30 p.m. , Elliott was then called to the Pro Bowl for the second time.

2019

After a strike at the beginning of the preseason Elliott agreed with the Cowboys to a new six-year contract for 90 million US dollars , sparking Todd Gurley highest paid running back the league from.
