Giuseppe Giorgio Englert

Giuseppe Giorgio Englert (born July 22, 1927 in Fiesole near Florence , Italy; † March 29, 2007 in Paris ) was a Swiss composer of electronic music.

Life

Englert was born in Fiesole near Florence and moved back to Switzerland with his parents in 1938. He grew up in Ascona and Einsiedeln . After his secondary school education he took in 1945 at the Zurich Conservatory with Heinrich Funk a degree in organ and Willy Burkhard in the subject composition on.

From 1948 he lived in Paris and continued his studies in organ with André Marchal . Englert had been a participant in the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music since 1955.

From 1970 to 1992 Englert taught improvisation, analysis, composition and interpretation, electroacoustics and musical computer science at the University of Paris VIII in Vincennes . He was a member of the local Groupe Art et Informatique de Vincennes (GAIV) since 1974 . His musical legacy is in the music department of the Zurich Central Library .

Works

Englert primarily used electronic electroacoustic devices and tapes for his early compositional work . He has been using synthesizers and computers since the mid-1970s . Since 1975 he has given synthesizer live concerts in Europe and overseas.
