Alfred Dehlinger

Alfred Julius Gottfried Dehlinger (born May 20, 1874 in Stuttgart ; † July 24, 1959 there ) was a politician of the DNVP . From 1924 to 1942 he was the Württemberg Minister of Finance.

education and profession

Dehlinger studied law at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . There he became a member of the Roigel Royal Society of Tübingen . After graduating, he worked in the financial administration of the Kingdom of Württemberg . From August 1915 he was a participant in the First World War . After his release as a sergeant in 1916 , he went to the Reich Treasury in Berlin , and later returned to the Württemberg Ministry of Finance.

Political career

Alfred Dehlinger was still a member of the conservatives during the Kingdom of Württemberg and, in November 1918, a founding member of the right-wing conservative German National People's Party (DNVP) , which appeared in Württemberg as a citizens' party . Until 1924 he was a member of the municipal council of the city of Stuttgart. He resigned this office when he was appointed Minister of Finance in the cabinet of the Württemberg State President Wilhelm Bazille (DNVP / Citizens' Party) on June 3, 1924 . He continued this office from 1928 under President Eugen Bolz ( center ) and also after the seizure of power and the deposition of Bolz in 1933 under the National Socialist Prime Ministers Wilhelm Murr and Christian Mergenthaler . In the state elections held in 1932 for the fourth legislative period of the Württemberg state parliament , Dehlinger acquired a mandate from first place on the DNVP state list, which he only held from May 10 to October 8, 1932 and then resigned. With the dissolution of the DNVP in May 1933, he became non-party. He did not join the NSDAP , but was a member of the NSRB and the NSV , among others . As the only minister in the Bolz cabinet , he remained a member of the Württemberg government during the Nazi era as finance minister until his retirement in early 1942 . In 1947 he was classified as less polluted in the denazification process by the Nürtingen Chamber of Justice and in 1948 as a follower in the follow-up process .

As a constitutional lawyer, Dehlinger published several academic books and articles. His main work is the two-volume book Württembergs Staatswesen , written between 1948 and 1951 , which contains an overview of the historical development of Württemberg and its administrative structures up to 1948.

honors and awards

Dehlinger had been an honorary doctor of medicine at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen since 1930 and professor since 1954 due to the award of the title by the government of the state of Baden-Württemberg .

In Stuttgart-Möhringen a street was named after him.

family

Dehlinger was the son of the national debt accountant August Wilhelm Dehlinger (1829–1882) and Margarete Lisette born. Gerner (1836–1919) and had 6 siblings. He was married in his first marriage since 1900 to Anna Martin (1876–1939) and the second since 1941 to Adelheid Charlotte Wintterlin (1900–1961). Dehlinger had six children. He was Protestant.
