Marco Marchionni (born July 22, 1980 in Monterotondo , Italy ) is an Italian football player . He is a midfielder who prefers to play on the right.
Career
In the club
Marco Marchionni started playing football at his hometown club, AC Monterotondo. He started his professional career in 1998 at FC Empoli , and in 2001 he moved to AC Parma (from 2004 FC Parma ). In the following two seasons Marchionni came only to a few inserts and was therefore loaned out to Piacenza Calcio for half a year in the 2002/03 season, where he was able to show convincing performances.
After his return to AC Parma in the 2003/04 season he played an important role in the first team under coach Cesare Prandelli , who had to rely on young players mainly because of the club's financial plight.
There followed two more seasons with good performances in Parma before Marco Marchionni decided in spring 2006, since his contract expired at the end of the season, for a free transfer to Juventus Turin . The later forced transfer of his new club to Serie B due to the manipulation scandal did not change his decision. At Juve he was used regularly in his first season, but could not fight for a regular place on the right side, as he had extremely strong competition in this position with Mauro Camoranesi . After Juventus' return to Serie A, he was seriously injured at the beginning of the 2007/08 season and had to take several months off. In the 2008/09 season Marco Marchionni was often in Claudio Ranieri's Juve starting lineup due to frequent injuries Camoranesi and showed strong performances in the right winger position.
In July 2009 Marco Marchionni moved to Fiorentina for 4.5 million euros .
In the national team
After a total of 18 U-21 internationals between 2000 and 2002 for Italy , Marchionni made his debut on November 12, 2003 under Giovanni Trapattoni in the senior team and played a total of six games for the Squadra Azzurra .
