Johann Hermann Sanning

Johann Hermann Sanning (born November 23, 1812 in Emsbüren -Hanwische, Emsland , Kingdom of Hanover ; † July 22, 1880 in Cincinnati , Hamilton County , Ohio , USA ) was a German-American builder in Cincinnati.

He was one of six children of the master carpenter and hacker Bernhard Hermann Sanning (1773-1850) and Anna Adelheid Pieper (1779-1860) and was baptized Catholic on the day of his birth in Emsbüren.

Sanning married in Cincinnati (Ohio) in 1840 Maria Catharina Klüsener (born October 27, 1817 in Salzbergen , Emsland , Kingdom of Hanover; † Cincinnati, Ohio), the youngest of 8 children of Jan Theodor Klüsener (1770–1841) and Susanna Maria Dickel ( 1770-1844). The couple had 3 sons John (* 1843), Francis (* 1847), Theodore (* 1851) and their daughter Margaret (* 1855).

Life

Sanning came to the United States alone (without parents) as a young man before 1840 and initially lived in Warren County, Ohio , before moving to Cincinnati, where he became a major builder.

On May 4, 1863, Sanning began - according to the plans of the German-American architect Johann Bast - with the construction work on St. Boniface's Church in Cincinnati (Chase Avenue), and the church was almost on schedule (November 1) after six months to be consecrated on November 13, 1863.
