Eugène Walckiers

Eugène Walckiers (born July 22, 1793 in Avesnes-sur-Helpe in Flanders , † September 1, 1866 in Paris ) was a French flautist and composer .

Life

Eugène Walckiers studied with Jean-Louis Tulou in Paris, where he also met Henri Brod , Gioacchino Rossini and Anton Reicha , with whom he studied and who greatly valued him for his talent and hard work. Jean-Louis Tulou also influenced Walckiers in his virtuosity.

His first compositions were works for flute , after 1820 he also wrote for piano , especially under the influence of Friedrich Kalkbrenner , Sigismund Thalberg and Heinrich Wilhelm Marchand . With each of them he worked on a piece for flute and piano.

Walckiers wrote 19 solo pieces, 113 duos, 19 trios and 13 quartets for flute, and in the last years of his life also string quartets and piano quintets and some choral works.

His works were all published during his lifetime. Some first editions are in the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris.
