Luigi Dossena (born May 28, 1925 in Campagnola Cremasca , Province of Cremona , Italy , † September 9, 2007 ibid) was a diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Luigi Dossena received in the March 25, 1951 Crema the priesthood . On February 26, 1973 he was by Pope Paul VI Appointed Titular Archbishop of Carpi and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Korea . The episcopal ordination received his Jean-Marie Cardinal Villot of the same year on March 25. In 1978 he was appointed Pro-Nuncio in the Cape Verde Islands as well as in Niger , Senegal and Burkina Faso and also an Apostolic Delegate in Mali , Guinea-Bissau and Mauritania . In 1979 he handed over the office in Niger and Burkina-Faso to Justo Mullor García . In 1980 he moved the seat of the Apostolic Nunciature to Mali.

In 1985 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Peru . In 1994 he moved to the Nunciature of Slovakia . On February 8, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted Dossena's resignation due to reasons of age.

Luigi Dossena was the first Apostolic Nuncio in Slovakia and was responsible for building up the Apostolic Nunciature in Bratislava . He also prepared the basic treaty between Slovakia and the Holy See. He was significantly involved in the visit of John Paul II to Slovakia in 1995. In 2005 he was awarded the Order of the White Double Cross by the Slovak state for these achievements .
