archeology
In 1928 the researchers Torsten Engström and H. Thomasson discovered a considerable number of ceramic objects on an area of 200 × 40 meters. The ceramics were at their discovery 26 to 29 meters above the sea and were v on the time from 3600 to 2900. Dated. Between 1934 and 1936, Axel Bagge undertook further excavations which unearthed another 600 kg of archaeological material. In addition to ceramics, masonry stoves and other objects were unearthed that were interpreted as the remains of huts and graves. The excavations were carried out in steady succession (1947, 1952, 1960, 1992, 1994). Notable finds were e.g. B. worked flints , a triangular arrowhead made of slate and more recent objects from around the year 1000.
Recent history
In the 17th century there was an estate in what is now the area of the village, which was an important stop in the region's stagecoach network . It is documented that several well-known people of the time made a stop in Åby. Among them are the fortress builder Erik Dahlberg , the Reichsmarschall Axel von Fersen , the singer Christine Nilsson and the naturalist Carl von Linné .
traffic
The place experienced a further boom in 1866 with the establishment of the Norrköping- Katrineholm railway line , which led to the establishment of several industrial companies. The now unused station building was built in 1915. Passenger trains stopped here until 1962.
