Svärtinge is a locality ( tätort ) in the Swedish province County Östergötland and the historical province Östergötland . The place is 10 km northwest of Norrköping on Riksväg 51 on the north side of Lake Glan . It has about 2500 inhabitants.

Initially, the settlement consisted of holiday homes, so-called Sommarstugor , today there are mostly ordinary houses that are inhabited all year round. In the course of the new settlements, a bypass was built for Riksväg 51, which originally ran through the town; the inauguration of the new route took place on December 7, 2007.
