shops

In 1980 he opened the first McDonald’s branch on Malaysian soil. In 1985 he bought Sport-Toto, a company mainly active in the games industry. In 2010 his name first appeared on The World's Billionaires list ; business magazine Forbes estimated his net worth at the time at $ 1.3 billion.

Cardiff City

In 2010 he acquired an absolute majority in the traditional Welsh club Cardiff City . Cardiff had played in blue for more than 100 years before Tan took over. Since Vincent Tan finds the color red more appealing and, according to him, has a better reputation in Asia than blue, Cardiff City has played in red since 2010. He also had the bird in Cardiff's club crest replaced with a red dragon. In January 2015 the logo was changed again and the bird returned to the coat of arms. The red dragon is still integrated in the logo, but much smaller than in the previous version and below the bird. In addition, the club is now playing in blue jerseys again at home games.
