Sports specialist

Certified sports specialist is a publicly recognized degree at the master's level , which is awarded after successfully completing industry- related commercial advancement training in accordance with the Vocational Training Act. The nationwide examination takes place on the basis of a special statutory ordinance before the examination board of a Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).

Areas of work and tasks

Certified sports specialists are qualified to work on business transactions in the various areas of the sports industry, especially in sports clubs , sports associations and sports companies. In doing so, they independently perform comprehensive and responsible tasks of planning, management and control using operational and personnel management instruments in the company management as well as in individual functional areas such as organization, marketing, public relations, sponsoring, merchandising and exploitation of rights.

Training content

The first legal provisions for the IHK advanced training examination to become a sports specialist came into force in 1998. Since July 1, 2011, the nationwide ordinance on the examination for the recognized advanced training qualification for certified sports specialist and certified sports specialist (SportFortbV) has been in force.

Certified sports specialists have knowledge, skills and experience that they have usually acquired through relevant professional training and professional experience and should enable them to achieve the following qualifications:

Business related qualifications
Action-specific qualifications
  • Management and marketing of clubs and sports facilities
  • Development and implementation of general and target group-specific offers and projects in sport
  • Conception and organization of regional, national and international events in sport
  • Planning, conception and implementation of marketing and fundraising measures
  • Leadership and collaboration

Admission requirements

To test: business-related skills can be granted to those who

  • a successfully passed final examination in a recognized commercial or administrative training occupation in the sports industry or
  • a successfully passed final examination in a recognized commercial or administrative training occupation and then at least one year of professional experience or
  • a successfully passed final examination in another recognized occupation followed by at least two years of professional experience or
  • at least four years of professional experience

To test: action Specific qualifications may be granted to those who

  • the completion of the part of the examination in business-related qualifications not older than five years, and
  • At least one or another year of professional experience for the admission requirements mentioned under the sub-examination of business- related qualifications

proves.

Financial funding opportunities

Participants in advanced training courses can apply for benefits via the Advancement Training Assistance Act (“Meister-BAföG”) to fund the course and examination fees .
