Ludwig Kneiss

Ludwig Kneiss (born November 11, 1830 in Bundenthal , † April 25, 1900 in Munich ) was a German opera singer ( bass / baritone / tenor ), actor, secretary and librarian.

Life

Kneiss worked at various Austrian theaters from 1853 to 1863, went to the Munich court theater in 1864, then for a short time to Ulm and from 1865 to 1867 completed an acting training at the Münchner Aktien-Volkstheater (from 1872 Königliches Theater am Gärtnerplatz) with Adolf Christen . At the opening performance of the Gärtnerplatztheater in November 1865, he had a leading role as "Münchner Kindl". In the following years engagements followed in several German cities and in Amsterdam. In 1872 he returned to Munich and worked there again as an actor and secretary at the Gärtnerplatztheater in May. There he played the landlord Grattabugia in Carl Zeller's comic opera Die Fornarina in the world premiere on October 18, 1879.

Kneiss is the father of the caricaturist, illustrator and painter Emil Kneiß .
