The Schlossberg in the Rhineland-Palatinate Dahner Felsenland , a part of the Wasgau formed by the southern part of the Palatinate Forest and the northern part of the Vosges , is a 323.1  m high mountain . On its elongated ridge lie the ruins of three medieval castles , known as the Dahner Burgengruppe .

geography

The Schlossberg rises in the district of Südwestpfalz on the forest delimitation of the town of Dahn just under 1 km east of its residential development. Its ridge stretches almost flat for about 350 m from southwest to northeast. The northeast spur belongs to the forest area of the local community Erfweiler .

From Dahn, Schlossstrasse , which is identical to Kreisstrasse  40, leads up to the mountain and passes it below the southwestern mountain spur. There a forest path branches off to the left at a small mountain saddle , via which hikers can reach the ridge after about 300 m. At the junction there is a parking lot at an altitude of 273  m , next to it is a small refuge .

Attractions

The ridge carries the castle ruins of Altdahn ( 317  m above sea level), Grafendahn ( 314  m ) and Tanstein ( 315  m ) , standing close together on five large rocks, from southwest to northeast . The name of the mountain comes from these three castles. In the north-east, at an altitude of 316  m, is the Löchelfelsen natural monument (ND-7340-210).

flora

With the exception of the castle areas and the rocks, the Schlossberg is densely covered with conifers . Mostly it is spruce and pine .
