The Schwarzbach , in some maps also Schwartzbach , is a nearly 24 km long left tributary of the Falkensteinerbach , which in turn flows into the Northern Zinsel .

course

The Schwarzbach arises in the Bitscher Ländchen near Dambach-Neunhoffen from the confluence of Neudoeferbach , Rothenbach and Mühlenbach , the latter itself being formed from the confluence of Schnepfenbach and Schlafweiherbach near Stürzelbronn . The Schwarzenbach was called in earlier times Cronnbach . Assuming the source of the Schnepfenbach not far from the German border as the longest tributary, the total length is about 32 km.

It flows mainly to the southeast, as is the rule with the streams of the sandstone Vosges. There are many fish ponds on the run. Rare animals and plants populate the valley, which is largely under nature protection, in which, among other things, a type of cancer occurs that is only found in this area. In the meadows you can see arnica , which was cultivated here as a medicinal plant in earlier times. On the wooded slopes there are sometimes bizarre sandstone rocks and some castle ruins. The oldest traces of settlement date from the younger Stone Age. In the 18th century the industrial dynasty De Dietrich promoted the construction of iron hammers, for example at the Jaegerthal settlement and at the Rauschendwasser . Some relics have been preserved. When the Maginot Line was built, a system of dams was built in the Schwarzbachtal so that the valley could be flooded if necessary.

Even above the actual Schwarzbach , Stürzelbronn am Mühlenbach is the first place in the valley. This old monastery site (former Abbey Stürzelbronn the Cistercian ) once had far-reaching influence and possession of areas lying in today on the German side. Past the Klostermühle and various forest houses as well as through the Langweiher , the former Grafenweiher , which today largely consists of Bruchwald, is reached. From here the brook bears the name Schwarzbach . It leads via Neunhoffen and Dambach through hardly populated areas to Reichshoffen , where it joins the Falkensteinerbach from the left .
