geography
course
The Falkensteinerbach rises in the Bitscher Ländchen in the Stürzelbronn forest , not far from the Bitsch military training area . The brook is named after Falkenstein Castle .
As with many streams in the Northern Vosges , the direction of flow is directed to the southeast. The ponds, barrages and drains are relics of a formerly intensive industrial character of the valley, especially by the iron industry of the De Dietrich family , but not much of that has remained. Today the deep forests of the sandstone Vosges dominate the picture again and the valley has been registered for the European Natura 2000 protection program . At the Falkensteinerbach there are very rare dragonfly species and aquatic and bank plants that are threatened with extinction across Europe. The stream is accompanied by the national road N 62 and the tracks of the disused railway line between Bitsch and Bad Niederbronn .
The first place on the run is Egelshardt . This is followed by small hamlets and forest houses over a long stretch. The much-visited lakes Hanauer Weiher and Lieschbacher Weiher are located in the northern side valleys . Philippsburg lies in a valley widening. The border between Lorraine and Alsace is crossed 2 km down the stream . The well-known spa town of Bad Niederbronn at the eastern exit of the Vosges is crossed along its entire length, the stream flows along the spa park. Via Reichshoffen , where the Schwarzbach joins from the left , and Gundershoffen , Uttenhoffen is reached. Here the Falkensteinerbach flows from the left into the Nördliche Zinsel , which in turn flows into the Moder .
Catchment area
The catchment area of the Falkensteinerbach is 192.2 km² and consists of 15.44% agricultural area, 79.82% forest areas and 4.65% built-up areas.
