Rudolph Friedrich Christian Hergt (* May 5, 1790 in Hadamar ; † June 11, 1862 in Koblenz ) came from a bookseller , printer and publisher family . From 1824 until his death in 1862 he was the owner of RF Hergt's bookstore and printing house in Koblenz.

His father was the pharmacist , medical assessor and bookseller Franz Christian Nikolaus Hergt (born December 3, 1760 in Zaisenhausen , Grand Duchy of Baden District Office, Bretten, † May 14, 1838 in Hadamar), who in 1814 also acquired a printing and publishing house in Koblenz. Following his 1796 Founded in Hadamar scholar bookstore , he gave 1815 acquired last year Huber'schen book printing and publishing house in Koblenz the name New scholarly bookstore .

Life

Rudolph Friedrich Christian had been managing director since 1821. From this year on, many publishing products also bear this company name. In 1824, his father even completely transferred his company to him. On January 1, 1830, Rudolph Friedrich Hergt officially changed the company name, which had meanwhile been renamed Neue Gelehrten-Buchhandlung & Druckerei, to the bookstore and book printer of RF Hergt . In 1832, the new owner also bought the publishing rights to the printing company Bernard Hériot (1768–1833) in Koblenz, and in 1834 the printing business of Mr. B. Hériot, who had since died. He thus owned two printing plants with modern machine equipment. In addition, he was also active in publishing to an increasing extent. He became particularly well-known through the publication of the monumental work Der Rheinische Antiquarius (39 volumes 1845–1871) by Johann Christian von Stramberg, which unfortunately remained unfinished . RF Hergt was also successful in business, as he held all the important sales outlets along the Rhine . (Based on: History of the German Book Trade in the 19th and 20th Centuries, Volume I, Frankfurt am Main 2003, p. 613).

After his death in 1862, the business was continued under the previous name RF Hergt by his widow and their children, Katharina, Barbara, Ludwig Christian and Victor Joseph Hergt . In August 1888, the company was then transferred to the Frankfurt Jaeger'sche Verlagsbuchhandlung, owner Karl Wolfgang Koenitzer. The previous owners Ludwig Christian and Victor Joseph Hergt then had the previous company name deleted from the commercial register .

Rudolf Friedrich Christian Hergt (also the Hergt'sche dynasty) belong - together with Hériot , Hölscher , Röhling , Krabben and Baedeker (Bädeker) - to the great Koblenz publishers of the 19th century.
