Pierre Bernard Francois Hériot (born September 15, 1768 in Bar-sur-Ornain , † April 30, 1833 in Koblenz ) was a French printer who came to Koblenz in 1794 in the wake of the French revolutionary troops and settled there. In 1798 he married Maria Sabel from Koblenz.

Activity as printer and publisher

In Koblenz, Hériot worked as a book and stone printer and as a publisher . He soon became quite a wealthy man, mainly because, as Imprimeur de la Préfecture, he had been given sole printing rights for the occupying army. In the beginning he probably worked with business partners whose names are only partially known. The founding date of his prefecture printing house Hériot, Barbier & Cie is still unclear, as is the later date of his sole ownership. What is certain is that he published one of the first books in Koblenz in 1808 in which lithographs were used, although it is still unclear whether he made them himself or obtained them from a foreign workshop. In August 1825 he sold his gallows press and the printing stones to the newly established government printing house. Then Bernard Hériot devoted himself more to his publishing business and printing. In 1832 he finally sold his publishing rights to the Koblenz printer and publisher Rudolph Friedrich Christian Hergt (1790–1862). After Bernard Hériot's death, his widow Maria, née Sabel, the printing works up for auction in October 1863. The buyer was again RF Hergt.

Along with Hergt, Röhling , Hölscher , Krabben and Karl Baedeker, Hériot is one of the major publishers in the city of Koblenz in the 19th century.
