Manny Diaz
Manuel Alberto Díaz (called Manny Diaz ; born November 5, 1954 in Havana , Cuba ) was the mayor of Miami , Florida from 2001 to 2009 . He did not belong to any political party.
In 1977 Diaz received his bachelor's degree in political science from Florida International University and received his doctorate in law from the University of Miami School of Law in 1980 .
He was a practicing attorney when he was elected mayor of Miami to succeed Joe Carollo . In 2006 he was re-elected for a second term.
In 2004 Diaz was named “Urban Innovator of the Year” by the Manhattan Institute .
Diaz is married and has four children.
