Daniel Alejandro Lembo Bentancor (born February 15, 1978 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

Alejandro Lembo began his career in 1996 in his hometown of Montevideo at Club Atlético Bella Vista , for whose team he played for three years in the Uruguayan league. In 1997 he won with the team the championship of the second highest Uruguayan league, the Segunda División Profesional de Uruguay . In 2000 he signed with the Italian first division club AC Parma , in which he could never prevail and returned to Uruguay in the same year. The defender signed with Nacional Montevideo . The defender won the Uruguayan championship three times with Nacional. In 2000, 2001 and 2002 the trophy could be won. In August 2003 the Spanish club Betis Sevilla signed him.

In Seville, Lembo was used regularly at the beginning, but from his third season he only played sporadically for the Andalusians. The high point of his time in Spanish football marked his participation in the UEFA Champions League during the 2005/06 season , when the team missed the next round with seven points in the group stage and then continued to play in the UEFA Cup . With a 4-0 victory in the final against Middlesbrough FC , the trophy could be won, but Lembo was not on the field in this game. In the Primera División , the team placed 14th place, in the following year the relegation could be secured with only one point ahead of the relegation ranks.

In August 2007 he returned to his homeland and signed with Danubio FC , where he worked for a year. For the 2008/09 season, another career station in Europe followed for the Uruguayan. Lembo completed 19 league games for the Greek club Aris Saloniki in the Super League and scored one goal. In the summer of 2009 he rejoined Nacional Montevideo after six years. 52 appearances for the Bolsos in the Primera División from the Apertura 2009 and ten matches in the Copa Libertadores later, his path led him to the neighboring country in Argentina. There he played in Apertura 2011 and Clausura 2012 for Club Atlético Belgrano . In Argentina's top division, he played 28 games (no goal) during this period. Another engagement with Nacional followed. In the 2012/13 season he completed another 16 first division games and three matches in the Copa Libertadores. After the season he ended his active career.

National team

Lembo took part with the Uruguayan U-20 selection at the U-20 South American Championship in 1997 and finished fourth with the team. During the tournament he was used by coach Víctor Púa seven times (no goal). In the same year he was runner-up in the junior selection. In the Uruguayan U-23 selection, he played in seven international matches (no goal) at the "Torneo Preolímpico" in Brazil in 2000. Lembo made his debut on June 17, 1999 in the friendly against Paraguay in the Uruguayan senior team . The defender took part in the Copa América with Uruguay that same year . After a mixed group stage with only one win, Paraguay were defeated in the quarter-finals and Chile in the semi-finals. Lembo also scored his first goal for Uruguay in the semi-final. The final against Brazil was finally lost 3-0. With the selection the qualification for the finals of the soccer world cup 2002 succeeded . The defender was used in the two group matches against Senegal and France. Uruguay was eliminated from the tournament as third party with two points. He played his last of 39 international matches on October 9, 2004. In the course of his national team career, he scored two goals.
